A boxing gym or a football pitch can reach a young person who has stopped trusting school, services and adults. It gives them structure, discipline and a reason to turn up. Once they are there, mentors can help with the harder things. Education, mental health, housing and work.
In the United Kingdom
NMF's flagship UK programme is BoxWise. Nick Maughan co-founded it in 2020 in a single gym in Brixton with childhood friend Rick Ogden and met its costs alone in the early years. It now runs its free ten-week programme in towns and cities across England and Wales. Many thousands of young people have graduated from it. Every session includes a free hot meal and adult interactions designed to bolster support for each young person.
BoxWise works through over one hundred local England Boxing clubs and provides them with targeted funding to help the club to perform its long-term goals in the community. Each new programme is funded not only for itself, but to leave a stronger local club behind.
BoxWise is a delivery partner to Violence Reduction Units, Youth Justice Services, local authorities and police forces. It runs courses inside Centrepoint's services for young people experiencing homelessness. It runs adapted boxing for young people with disabilities, including at the largest specialist disability school in Wales. It has also partnered with a diverse range of groups targeting inclusion and a leg-up for those who would most benefit from it ranging from women escaping domestic violence to Ukrainian refugee children.
NMF supports Coach Core Foundation, the sports apprenticeship charity, while BoxWise and Coach Core work as national partners to build routes from community sport into paid apprenticeships and jobs.
Nick Maughan also supports Dallaglio RugbyWorks, the Charlie Miller Football Academy in Glasgow, Brighton Table Tennis Club and many more.
NMF's sport and community work reaches young people across the UK with these charities as well as its close association with the Centre for Social Justice Foundation. NMF has commissioned deep research into sports for young people in the UK, has funded guidelines for schools and other youth organisations seeking support in expanding sport and has argued for a 'right to sport' for all young people through its work with the CSJ.
In The Bahamas
Nick Maughan is the founder and Chairman of the Bahamas Boxing Academy in Nassau. He fully funded the construction of its new centre, which was opened by Prime Minister Philip Davis. Young people now come to its gyms, homework room, computer centre, kitchen and dormitories from across New Providence and the Family Islands. Rick Ogden, Chief Executive of BoxWise, is a trustee and brings with him what BoxWise has learned in the UK.
The BoxWise team regularly visits the Academy to share the expertise it has gained over the years of experience it has in running training camps globally. The two charities are entirely separate, but both benefit from the trans-Atlantic ties that bind them.
In October 2026 Nick Maughan founded The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy to bring the two countries together across the full breadth of youth sport. The charity is designed with the dual purpose of maximising participation in youth sports and strengthening Bahamian-UK connections in the belief that the physical and mental health benefits of sports benefit every young person, shape international community and strengthen relationships from grass roots levels upwards.
Funded with an initial commitment by NMF to cover all incorporation costs and the first four years of operating costs in addition to a one million dollar match funding pot to boost philanthropic donations. It operates with the full support of the Bahamian government and the British High Commission in Nassau.
The charity is honoured by the patronage of Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Cynthia A. Pratt, Governor-General of The Bahamas, and works in close partnership with both the British High Commission in Nassau and the Bahamian High Commission in London.
Internationally
BoxWise has also run programmes in Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Egypt and Brazil, and NMF has funded youth sport programmes in more than twenty countries.

Programmes in Sport

BoxWise
BoxWise began in 2020 in a single gym in Brixton, South London. Childhood friends Nick Maughan and Rick Ogden founded it, and NMF met its costs alone in the early years. It now works in towns and cities across England and Wales, and abroad from Uganda to Brazil. It has since built a broad and sustainable base of generous donors, including a gift of one million pounds from the boxing promoter Frank Warren.

Bahamas Boxing Academy
The Bahamas Boxing Academy on Celery Drive, Nassau, is a national youth boxing and community centre. It was established at the request of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the Hon. Philip Davis KC. Nick Maughan founded the Academy and chairs its board of trustees. He funded its new buildings in full and oversaw the rebuilding of the site personally, and the Prime Minister opened them in 2026.
The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy
Two Commonwealth realms, one sporting partnership. The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy was incorporated in Nassau in October 2026, after extensive planning between the British High Commission, the Office of the Governor-General, the Office of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas and the Nick Maughan Family Foundation.

Coach Core
Coach Core Foundation is a national charity that trains young people from disadvantaged backgrounds as sports coaches and helps them into paid work. It was established by the Royal Foundation in 2012.

RugbyWorks
Dallaglio RugbyWorks works with teenagers who have been excluded from school or are at risk of it. It uses rugby to build trusted relationships with adults, then works on life skills, aspiration, physical health and mental wellbeing. It helps young people into education, training and work after school.

Charlie Miller Football Academy
The former Rangers player Charlie Miller set up his academy to develop young footballers in Scotland and to bring in children from disadvantaged backgrounds. NMF funding has paid for equipment, fees and insurance so that more children can take part.
