The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy

The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy logo

Two Commonwealth realms, one sporting partnership.

The Bahamas-UK Sports Academy was incorporated in Nassau in October 2026, after extensive planning between the British High Commission, the Office of the Governor-General, the Office of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas and the Nick Maughan Family Foundation.

Nick is its founder. The idea followed a series of meetings with the British High Commission and the Prime Minister on how to maximise impact in youth sport and strengthen long-term ties between the UK and The Bahamas.

NMF is meeting the cost of the Academy's work in its early years and has provided a further one million dollars in match funding for its grant-making, to build sporting ties between the two countries.

The Academy funds youth sport in The Bahamas and creates lasting links between young athletes, coaches and sporting bodies in the two countries. It builds on the legacy of the Commonwealth Youth Games, which Nassau hosted in 2017, and works in close partnership with the British High Commission in Nassau.

The charity operates under the patronage of Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Cynthia A. Pratt, Governor-General of The Bahamas and has appointed its founding board.
