Womb Transplant UK

In February 2025, Grace Davidson, aged 36, became the first woman in the U.K. to give birth after receiving a womb transplant from a living donor - her older sister, during an eight‑hour operation in February 2023 at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital as part of the Womb Transplant programme. After IVF with one of seven embryos, Grace delivered a healthy baby girl named Amy Isabel (in honour of her sister and transplant surgeon Isabel Quiroga) via planned caesarean on 27 February 2025. The groundbreaking procedure, led by Professor Richard Smith and Isabel Quiroga, marks the culmination of over 25 years of pioneering uterine transplant research. NMF is proud to have been a regular donor to this ground breaking medical research for many years.
