Founded by Nick Maughan at the request of Prime Minister Brave Davis in 2025, the Bahamas Boxing Academy is a not-for-profit initiative designed to revive the sport of boxing in Nassau and create a pipeline of future champions. Built on the belief that boxing changes lives, the Academy provides a structured environment for young people to discover the sport, grow in discipline, and progress from recreational training to competitive performance at the highest levels.
The Academy is currently undergoing a major redevelopment with funding from the Nick Maughan Family Foundation and generous support from local donors. The site will feature two dedicated indoor gyms, one for juniors beginning their boxing journey and one for seniors pursuing competitive excellence, alongside a community area, games room and gathering space. Outdoor facilities will include a weights gym and a covered showcase boxing ring designed to host exhibition bouts and inspire the next generation of athletes.
By separating programmes for juniors and seniors, the Academy ensures youngsters gain confidence and foundational skills, while serious athletes receive professional coaching and facilities that match their ambition. This dual structure positions the Academy as both a community anchor and a performance centre, nurturing recreational engagement while also providing a route towards national and international success.
Through investment in facilities, coaching, and youth outreach, the Bahamas Boxing Academy is establishing itself as the country’s leading hub for boxing. It stands as a commitment to both community development and sporting ambition, fostering discipline, resilience, and opportunity, while laying the foundations for Bahamian boxers to compete on the world stage.
